After registry, everyone had to go through inspection. They were asked a series of 29 personal questions like, "Where were you born?" "Are you married?" "What is your occupation?" "Have you ever been convicted of a crime?" "How much money do you have?" "What is your destination?" If the answers to their questions did not match their Manifest List description of the registered person, they were denied the right to proceed in the immigration process. Interpreters were there to help with communication. Take a look at the pictures. How do you think these immigrants may feel? Are they intimidated? Are they excited to be one step closer to freedom?
