At the bottom of the stairs, was the post office. There, the immigrants were able to purchase their railway tickets to their final destination. Social workers were also there to give guidance to those who needed it. Money was able to be exchanged there as well for U.S. dollars. A large number of new arrived immigrants chose to stay in New York. Others traveled into the other states and areas of the United States to make their home there.
